The Ultra Max shares the same smaller concept of the Ultra Swede, but with a slightly larger proportioned mahogany body topped with a thick custom carved flame maple top. The body joins to a mahogany set neck utilising a mortise and tenon neck joint with a 25.5âÃÂàscale length, naturally featuring HagstromâÃÂÃÂs H-ExpanderâÃÂâ truss-rod and ResinatorâÃÂâ fingerboard. Its sleek and ultra-comfortable fast neck is paralleled with a pair of Custom 60 Alnico-5 pickups with eloquent Aluminium brushed covers, delivering a cutting voice that this instrument demands.
Each of the Ultra MaxâÃÂÃÂs specially wound Custom 60 humbucking pickups utilises Nylon coated wire paired with an Alnico 5 magnet (unmistakably familiar to the Custom 58). However, the Custom 60 packs a mightier punch and a hotter sizzle compared to the vintage-voiced Custom 58.
Each pickup is controlled via an independent volume control featuring HagstromâÃÂÃÂs standard R/C circuit for cleaner tones. A single master tone control features a dual coil-split, using a push/pull configuration allowing players to switch between full humbucker to spanky single coil tones in a heartbeat.
The Ultra Max combines the power, sustain, clarity and attack of the Ultra Swede with an updated tonal pallet and additional flexibility, comfort and playability. With its longer 25.5âÃÂàscale length, the Ultra Max also handles drop tunings with ease.
